Solar power is becoming increasingly popular as energy prices continue to rise, and the cost of solar panel installation continues to decline. Combined with all of the government incentives to invest in solar, it’s slowly becoming more mainstream to see solar panels going up.

When the first person in the neighborhood installs solar, it usually sparks conversation amongst neighbors. Curiosity arises and it becomes a center for social interaction. How much did it cost? How much energy is produced? Is it worth the investment?

Generaytor spotted that trend and decided to take solar social – social media that is. Generaytor is the latest social network created specifically for home owners using solar power. It’s a great way to connect with others around the country that value solar energy as much as you do – especially if you don’t have many people to connect with on the subject locally.

If you’re thinking about going solar, but want more information before you take the dive, Generaytor  can be a great resource for you. They have a Virtual Solar feature that allows you to estimate the potential amount of energy you could generate given your home’s structure and location. It’s also a great way to test drive solar without any investment on your part – other than your time.

What’s really neat about Generaytor, though, is the online social community centered around solar users. It allows you to compare information about your solar performance with other members of the community. This opens up all sorts of opportunities for not only inspiring other members to go solar, but also to collectively optimize the solar setup you’re currently using.

You can locate homes using solar in your area and check out their performance compared to yours. It may help you glean insights on how you can tweak your system to get a higher output. Or it may help you understand that your setup is completely optimized and allow you to be a model for others.

If you are already producing solar energy in your home – or if you’re toying with the idea – go check out Generaytor.  It’s free to join.

Do you currently or have you considered installing solar energy at your home?
