various cosmetics

Mirror, mirror on the wall, who’s the greenest of them all? While Snow White could have used a little bronzer or blush, you likely have a few containers of each that you’re not using. Sending them to Bavaria would be silly but selling your gently used makeup for cash is certainly no fairy tale.

We’ve all fallen prey to the well-intended salesperson and purchased cosmetics or makeup tools we didn’t need, no longer wear, or perhaps never even opened. What if you could sell these items and earn cash instead?

It’s time to break up with your makeup, but there’s no need to be grumpy. Keep what you love and earn money from your gently used or forgotten cosmetics; the rosy lipstick that looked perfect under retail store lighting or the blush that makes you appear more bashful than happy.

Founded by a self-professed makeup hoarder, Glambot is a one-stop online destination to buy or sell limited edition, discontinued, and highly sought-after makeup brands. While it almost sounds too good to be true, you don’t need a magic mirror to see that it’s not. Glambot will actually buy back your gently loved, unexpired makeup and pay you cash (or store credit for 30 percent more if you desire).

The Glambot Selling Process

  • Check the approved list to make sure the makeup, brushes & tools, unused skincare or perfume samples you’re selling are preferred brands.
  • Print out your free shipping label.
  • Make sure your new or pre-owned items contain at least 50 percent of product remaining and aren’t expired.
  • Be sure containers are in sellable condition and makeup tools are clean or new. Glambot doesn’t accept: artificial lashes (except new velour lashes), used skincare products, or makeup bags; items with reusable applicators such as mascara, lip gloss, and liquid eyeliner pens; or hair products, body products, nail products, or retail-sized fragrances.
  • If you’re U.S. based, you must send a minimum of 20 items from the approved brands list (international sellers are required to send 30 items).

Seeing Is Believing

Watch now to see how Glambot accepts — or rejects — sanitizes, and then sells back your gently loved makeup to another savvy beauty shopper.

How Glambot Works

Glambot carefully inspects each item to confirm that the brand is authentic. Through their rigorous sanitizing techniques, each beauty product is cleaned via layer product scrubbing, high heat, natural emollients, or alcohols, then sealed for freshness, packaged, and shipped to its new owner.

The list of accepted brands includes most major department store and recognizable brands such as MAC, Benefit, and the Sephora Collection, but also includes some of my favorite toxic- and cruelty-free brands such as Tarte, Kat Von D, Josie Maran, and RMS Beauty.

Five business days after Glambot receives your package, they’ll send you a cash and trade offer via email. Then, it’s up to you to stash the cash that will be sent to you via PayPal, or go on a makeup shopping spree with your new Glambucks for a 30 percent higher in-store credit. If you choose to reject your offer, you can pay for the shipping to have your products returned to you. Not happy with your new or new-ish item? No worries! Glambot will take back your unopened item within 14 days of receipt (except on sale or final clearance goods).

Glambot truly redefines upcycling. One person’s trash really is another person’s treasure. The question is, what will you do with all that extra cash and drawer space?
