In the United States, we waste between 30% to 40% of our food supply, according to the United States Department of Agriculture. Some of this is good food that could feed hungry people.
By becoming aware of how much food our home or workplace discards, we can take steps to reduce food waste. If we waste less food, we can reduce the demand for food production, freeing up resources that are used to produce, process, transport, prepare, store, and dispose of discarded food to be directed to other beneficial purposes.
